OHCHR Indigenous Fellowship Program: The OHCHR Indigenous Fellowship Program 2024 is now open for applications from qualified individuals. This initiative aims to empower indigenous people by providing them with a comprehensive understanding of the United Nations system.

Participants in this program will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to support their organizations and communities in protecting and promoting their rights. The training program is offered in five languages, fostering a sense of unity among fellows during their training.

The OHCHR Indigenous Fellowship Program aims to give indigenous peoples an opportunity to learn about UN human rights institutions and mechanisms, specifically related to indigenous peoples’ rights issues.

Fellows who complete the 4-week summer internship can better assist their communities and organizations in protecting and promoting indigenous rights.

The 2024 fellowship will provide multilingual training in English, Spanish, French, Russian and Portuguese.

Eligibility Criteria for OHCHR Indigenous Fellowship Program

To qualify for the OHCHR Indigenous Fellowship 2024, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be of indigenous origin. Non-indigenous individuals, even those with close ties to indigenous communities and/or organizations, will not be considered.
  • Age is not a barrier to participation in the program.
  • Formal education should not prevent participation in the IFP, considering the socio-economic challenges many indigenous peoples face that limit their access to formal education.
  • Applicants must commit to training other indigenous individuals upon returning to their respective communities/organizations.
  • The applicant’s proposal and candidacy must be endorsed by their indigenous organization and/or community. The endorsing organization should have a solid constituency or membership, demonstrating its representative nature.
  • Proficiency in the language of instruction for the program is a prerequisite.
